"Minority Groups at the Edge of Society"
UNITED Conference in Budapest (H) in English language
organised by UNITED for Intercultural Action
Europe is experiencing a growing discrimination especially towards migrant and minority groups. Governments have the responsibility to build anti-discrimination measures and protect equal rights of people. Instead we have poor reactions of state institutions, political parties and media that even put the blame on discriminated groups themselves. Innocent people continue to be victims of racism.
The conference forms a space for antidiscrimination activists in Europe to discuss strategies on how to successfully include minority groups in contemporary society and how respond to discrimination and violence related to racism, xenophobia and nationalism...

International Refugee Day

On 4th December 2001 the UN General Assembly Resolution proclaimed 20th June as the World Refugee Day. In occasion of this date various activities (demonstrations, conferences, festivals and exhibitions) in support of refugees will take place all over Europe.
Since several years UNITED co-ordinates an international refugee campaign where the main issues empahasized are:
* Denouncing the European policies in matter of asylum and immigration that are more and more restrictive, as a result of which UNITED documented 11.105 death cases of refugees and asylum seekers who had died at Europe's border and inside detention and deportation camps all over Europe.
* Promoting a society where migrants and asylum seekers have not to face racism and discrimination.
* Showing Refugees not as victims of circumstances but as talented individuals who are contributing to the cultural enrichment and the diversity of society.
UNITED calls upon organisations to contribute to this awareness raising campaign. Keep the secretariat informed about your activities. For further information visit the Refugee Campaign Site www.unitedagainstracism.org/pages/camprfc.htm

09.11.2010
“International Day Against Fascism and Antisemitism”
The focus of the campaign around the 9 November is to join forces and build a strong movement capable of fighting fascism in all its forms. Anti-fascist, anti-racist, Jewish and Roma organisations both inside and outside the UNITED network commemorate the "Kristallnacht", which took place on 9 November 1938. This partly state-organised pogrom against German Jews symbolises the beginning of the Holocaust. The commemoration has taken a new meaning as we remember not only the victims from 1938, but also campaign against rise of neo-Nazism and racism in Europe today, and show support for the recent victims of racist and fascist attacks. If you decide to organise an event, please inform UNITED. We will publish a List of Activities on Internet and we can provide you with free material, like posters and postcards.
