International Day Against Fascism and Anti-Semitism
Joint campaign of anti-fascist,
anti-racist, human rights, Roma and Jewish organisations both
inside and outside the UNITED network. On 9 November 1938, the
'Kristallnacht' pogrom took place. This partly state-organised
pogrom against German Jews symbolises the beginning of the Holocaust.
After World War II the Europeans decided that they would never
let anything like the Holocaust happen again. They stated: Never
Again.
'Never Again' not only means no more Hitler and no more Holocaust,
but it also means to be aware of the underlying hatred, fear,
prejudice, discrimination and racism that was the driving force
behind National-Socialism.
For the Nazis Jews were the scapegoats on whom all the hatred
and fears could be focused. This year's campaign around 9 November
concentrates on the way certain groups are used as scapegoats
for economic, political and social problems, also now, 65 years
after the 'Kristallnacht'.
