European Elections Campaign 2019

Let's vote

Make them small again!

In May 2019 a new European Parliament will be elected. We will have the opportunity to decide the future of the European Union. It is upon us to decide whether we want a UNITED Europe based on shared values of solidarity and diversity or let tribalism and fear dominate the political discourse. The very existence of the European Union is at stake, as populist and nationalist parties can gain a majority in the European Parliament and dismantle the European project from within. That is if we do not act!

We therefore call on you to take action in this crucial moment and mobilize as European citizens to vote for unity in diversity and make populist and nationalist parties small again!

#LetsVote!

“The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.”

Albert Einstein

Vote_S

If we want to ensure that the European Union continues to exist and thrive further, we must vote! Every single one of us, because voter turnout is by far the most decisive factor for any election results. Examples of inaction leading to unwanted consequences, such as Brexit or the election of Donald Trump as president of the United States, affect us today and will continue to do so, all because too few citizens acted for unity, diversity and democracy.

As organisations who care about the future of Europe, we call upon you to start organizing activities in the run-up to the EP elections, especially motivating young people to vote. Though we think that all age and demographic groups should get active and exercise their civil rights and duties, we appreciate that the results of these elections will affect young people most.

While the EU is not perfect, there is a lot at stake, including many freedoms and opportunities we often take for granted. These include freedom of movement between Member States – be it for travelling, studying, volunteering or working – and numerous funding programmes that benefit young people (e.g. Erasmus +), people from different groups that are more vulnerable to social exclusion (e.g. European Social Fund), but also programmes to support the development of different regions in Member States (ERDF), of agriculture and rural areas (EAFRD). These are just some of the many EU-level support initiatives that have a direct positive impact on our lives, though we might not always realise this.

This is why we need to be UNITED and ensure the survival of the EU, so we can continue to make it stronger and more inclusive together. So, Let’s Vote!

Knowledge is power!

Of course, as citizens we need to familiarise ourselves with the agendas and programmes of candidates to the European Parliament in order to be able to make an informed choice. This is why we count on your expertise to provide us with information regarding parties and politicians spreading intolerance and hatred in your country. For this we have created an easy-to-fill-in form. The information we receive will be used to create a Europe-wide map of political parties that you do not want to be see in the European Parliament.

We want to hear from you!

If you have other ideas to shape the UNITED campaign or if you are already planning activities for the EP elections, we would be grateful if you could share them with us at epelections@unitedagainstracism.org.

Do you want to participate in our campaign but are not sure how? No problem! Report discriminatory parties and politcians to UNITED and help us to collect data about them from all over Europe. Later, you can help us spread the collected and visualised data on Social Media and during activities.

You can also participate in other campaigns from our friends and colleagues, we have created a list of some of the activities here.

Populist and nationalist parties have been spreading exclusion and fear for too long! It is time we act! So #LetsVote and #MakeThemSmallAgain !
